SAG Awards predictions head-scratcher: Can ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ win drama without having the biggest cast?
When it comes to the SAG Awards, size often matters. The most massive casts often run off with the ensemble prizes, which explains how “Lost” found victory at the 2005 ceremony, and how “Downton Abbey” (2012) was able to take down two-time champ “Boardwalk Empire” (2010-2011). This year, however, Gold Derby’s SAG TV predictions favor Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” to prevail despite having the second-smallest cast. Are we crazy for going against bigger ensembles?

“The Handmaid’s Tale” boasts 10 cast members on the voting ballot, ahead of only Netflix’s “The Crown” at five. Comparatively, the other nominated dramas each feature more than a dozen actors: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” at 30, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” at 17 and NBC’s “This Is Us” at 13. In recent years “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey” always had the biggest casts, with “Downton” beating the HBO fantasy series in 2014 and 2015.

Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard cast in The Goldfinch

After the recent addition of Jeffery Wright and Luke Wilson to The Goldfinch, Warner Bros. has now added another name to the adaptation. The Hollywood Reporter brought word that Stranger Things and It star Finn Wolfhard has joined the cast in the film.

The Goldfinch is an adaptation of Donna Tartt’s bestselling book and will be directed by John Crowley with Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) in the lead role. The film sees Elgort as Theodore Decker, a young man who survives a terrorist bombing at an art museum which kills his mother and tumbles through a series of adventures before becoming involved in New York City’s art underworld.

Wolfhard will star as Young Boris, a Ukrainian student and troublemaker who bonds with Theo due to both having lost their mothers and who introduces him to drugs and alcohol.

Stranger Things Star Finn Wolfhard Joins The Goldfinch

Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated adaptation of The Goldfinch has picked up another important cast member, with It and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard joining the cast. The young actor will portray the younger version of the pivotal Boris character, with the adult version being played by Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk). Young Boris makes quite an impact on the life of the lead character Theo Decker, although it hasn't been revealed who will play the young Theo quite yet.

In the original Pulitzer Prize winning book by Donna Tartt, the story follows 13-year-old Theo Decker, who was visiting the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art with his mother, to see an exhibition of Dutch masterpieces, which includes Carel Fabritius's The Goldfinch. Theo's life is upended when a bomb explodes in the museum as part of a deadly terrorist attack that kills his mother and several others. Amid the confusion, Theo comes across

It Cruises Past $700 Million At The Box Office

If nothing else, It has certainly proven the point about the vastness of the spectrum of Stephen King adaptations. After all, the popularity of the author is by no means a guarantee of quality, as for every Misery or The Shining, there are several Dreamcatchers.

2017 has seen something of a Stephen King flurry across screens both big and small, though, with Gerald’s Game arriving on Netflix, and The Dark Tower and It both creeping into cinemas. While the former landed with a dull thud, It has planted its feet firmly in the realm of success – both critically and commercially.

Muschietti’s ambitious adaptation had been in development for some time before the director climbed aboard, but once he took the reins, he cast Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise – alongside child actors Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer and Wyatt Oleff.

It’s surely this combination of performers,

Blu-ray Review – It (2017)

It, 2017.

Directed by Andy Muschietti.

Starring Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Nicholas Hamilton, and Bill Skarsgard.

Synopsis:

A group of bullied kids band together when a monster, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children.

I saw the original miniseries of It when I was 9 years old. I couldn’t sleep for a month and have never seen the film in full again since that viewing. After seeing various clips from the miniseries since then, I recognize the cheesiness of the acting, effects and some of the writing, but it was still too terrifying for me to ever want to fully revisit.

I never caught the new It in theatres, though I was curious to see it despite the fact director Andy Muschietti’s remake looked 10X scarier than the miniseries. After some hesitation, I finally sat down
