AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young Passes Away at 64

AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young Passes Away at 64
For those about to rock, we salute you. Malcolm Young, founding member of AC/DC and brother to lead guitarist Angus Young, has passed away at the age of 64. Malcolm suffered through dementia and cancer for the last years of his life and has not toured or recorded with the band since 2008's Black Ice. Malcolm Young was the band's rhythm guitar player and is responsible for many of AC/DC's best-known songs that have topped the charts as well as helped launch movies into the top of the box office with his contributions to soundtracks.

In a statement on the Malcolm Young's Facebook, his family said, "Renowned for his musical prowess, Malcolm was a songwriter, guitarist, performer, producer and visionary who inspired many." While the statement is accurate, it also underscores just how amazing Malcolm Young really was. Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Action Hero was a box office bomb,

Ozzy Osbourne Announces Farewell Tour to Run Through 2020

Ozzy Osbourne Announces Farewell Tour to Run Through 2020
Ozzy Osbourne has announced that after 5 decades of performing, he's retiring from the global stage in a massive 2-year farewell world tour. Ozzy just recently performed with his legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath for the last time and that show is now being released on DVD. Ozzy embarked on an insanely successful solo career after he split with Black Sabbath in a haze of drugs and alcohol, which with the help of MTV, made Ozzy Osbourne into a household name and heavy metal icon. The 68-year old singer has decided that now is the time to give it one last go around.

The legendary singer-songwriter and reality TV star announced the first leg of his two-year farewell world concert tour earlier this week. It will begin May 5th in Mexico and conclude July 2nd in Lisbon, Portugal. The specific city and venue in Mexico have yet to be announced.

Black Sabbath (est. 1968) is done. Retired. Finished. Seriously. They mean it this time. It’s over. I mean, why else would they call this farewell tour The End?

Okay, so maybe it’s not really the end of Sabbath. Although Ozzy says that he’s done with the band, he’s said that before. And why didn’t he make a proper farewell statement at the end of the last show? Tony Iommi doesn’t want to tour anymore for health reasons, but he says he’d consider recording a new album and perhaps the odd on-off gig. Geezer? He’ll go along with whatever Ozzy and Tony say. Bill Ward wasn’t part of this farewell because he was fighting with the other three,

Flashback: Watch Black Sabbath Become Wild Beatles-Style Kids' Cartoon
Black Sabbath became a wacky, Scooby Doo or Beatles-style cartoon in the early 2000s, when animator and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog creator Robert Smigel broke out his running SNL bit TV Funhouse into a half-hour show. The show ran like a Seventies kids' show with a host, Doug Dale, who hung out with a bunch of animal puppets – including some voiced by Smigel – and introduced not-ready-for-primetime spots in the vein of his Ambiguously Gay Duo and X-Presidents bits. The show was short-lived, but its eight episodes were just long

Dominic Sandbrook: Let Us Entertain You review – from Doctor Who to Danny Boyle

Sandbrook’s enthusiastic gallop through Britain’s enduring pop-cultural output from the 1960s onwards turned up interesting unknown titbits on even well-trodden tales. Meanwhile, My Psychic Life chose easy targets to ridicule

Observe the two middle fingers of Tony Iommi’s right hand, or what’s left of them after a steel press landed on his hand at the Birmingham factory where he worked. These two fingers represent the decline of heavy industry and the upswing in Britain’s cultural currency because their owner went on to play lead guitar for Black Sabbath; swapping one heavy metal for another.

And so begins Dominic Sandbrook: Let Us Entertain You (BBC2), an enjoyable gallop through Britain’s pop-cultural output from the 1960s onwards. Doctor Who, Jk Rowling, James Bond, the Beatles and the aforementioned heavy metal are all cited as enduring success stories from this new “empire of the imagination”, which

Ozzy Osbourne Will Play 'Sid Fishy' in Kid's Show 'Bubble Guppies'
A children's animated show named Bubble Guppies is not the first, or hundredth, thing one would equate with a man who once snorted a line of ants with Mötley Crüe and bit the head off a dove. 10 Essential Gateway Tracks To Get You Into Metal

Metalheads worldwide can argue for hours about what sub-genre of metal deserves to be the top of the heap, but if there is one thing that we can agree on, it is this: metal rules!

Born of electric blues, psychedelia and early ’70′s glam rock, metal originated in England during the late ’60′s and early ’70′s. Some purists insist that Led Zeppelin were progenitors of metal and it is commonly accepted that Tony Iommi and the boys in Black Sabbath deserve the title as the world’s first true metal band; their first four albums are considered the canon of early metal history for good reason.

One of the enduring qualities of heavy metal is the loyalty of its following across a broad demographic. At a recent Lamb of God show it was observed that the audience was represented by both guys and gals whose ages spanned from teens to 6o-somethings,

Best of 2013: The Year's Top 13 Horror-Friendly Albums
In the realm of dark musical delights, 2013 has been quite a historic year: legends in their respective genres returned and/or reunited, while others marked the swan songs of their careers; iconic artists turned out some of their finest work, while some innovative up-and-comers set loose fresh and evil earworms on our collective brains. Honestly, it was damn near impossible for me to narrow the list down to just thirteen entries – a mere Top 10 was out of the question – and cutting names felt like chopping off my own extremities (which I'll admit would be an impressive journalistic statement, but could lead to unpleasant side effects I'd rather not deal with). Still, I found a way to make it work. Well... okay, I cheated, actually. More on that later. But for now, let's cycle back through 2013 – definitely a banner year for scary sounds! [Be sure to click on the titles for full album reviews.] 1. Maniac: Original Soundtrack If you associate old-school

Exclusive Photos of the Black Sabbath Maze at Halloween Horror Nights

  • DailyDead
Continuing our coverage of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, we have exclusive photos from Black Sabbath: 13 3D, one of this year’s new attractions. Kristian and Fernanda Hanson were invited by Universal to check out the event for Daily Dead and here’s what Kristian had to say:

Black Sabbath is one of the most prolific metal bands in history and now they have their own maze at Halloween Horror Nights. The maze from the beginning is a lot of fun with the addition of the 3D paint and the glasses that are given to the guests. Each room has different songs playing from the prolific band, and the one room that had the biggest impact was the War Pigs room where a nuclear attack is taking place. Definitely a fun maze and one that will leave the Sabbath fans happy in regards to the visuals and
