Emmy Nominations: The State of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon
Only four short years ago, streaming giant Netflix was just entering the Emmy race. Earning 14 nominations for original series “Arrested Development,” “Hemlock Grove,” and “House of Cards,” and ultimately winning one for directing for a David Fincher-helmed episode of the political potboiler, put the former movie rental company on the map with the TV Academy — and Hollywood at large.

These days, 14 nominations might seem small potatoes to Netflix, which has ballooned up to 91 noms this year alone, earning the title of second-most nominated network — behind only premium cabler HBO at 111. Its impressive depth now reaches across drama (“Stranger Things,” “The Crown”), comedy (“Master of None,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), limited series (“Black Mirror”), nonfiction (“13th,” “Amanda Knox”) and specials (Sarah Silverman). Meanwhile, the streaming competition — Amazon and Hulu — is still in wading in the teens, chasing Netflix’s numerical success.

Holding steady at 16 nominations year over year, Amazon has five programs in the race, with

The man stopped from naming a film after Steven Spielberg’s boat

Simon Brew Jun 5, 2017

A 1996 movie originally went by the title of Mr Spielberg's Boat. Until lawyers got involved...

In recent years, film writer and director John Huddles has been busying himself with several projects, not least his reasonably well-received thriller After The Dark. Yet he nearly came a cropper with his debut feature, 1996’s Far Harbor.

The film, which would go on to star Jennifer Connolly, Dan Futterman and Marcia Gay Holden, originally went by a different title. A title that brought it to the attention of director Steven Spielberg’s lawyers.

Huddles named the movie Mr Spielberg’s Boat, after seeing the bearded-director's then 131-foot yacht anchored at Sag Harbor, in the New York area of the USA. The draft of the film followed the story of a bunch of young professionals who see the yacht anchored off-shore, and production duly began.

As Premiere magazine reported back in August

Stream this in the summer: 'In Treatment'
In my early days on the beat, NBC had an ad campaign encouraging people to watch summer reruns, promising, "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you!" In the age of Peak TV, that slogan seems less cynical than accurate. The rise of streaming services has put the bulk of TV history only a click or two away, which means that people are constantly discovering The Wire, or Arrested Development, or Terriers (sigh) for the very first time. In lieu of a summer rewind this year, I wanted to offer up primers of shows you can stream, whether an older series available in full(*) or something current you can catch up on before its next season begins. So far, I've done a few current shows in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Halt and Catch Fire, and Rectify, plus completed shows in United States of Tara and Flight of the Conchords. (*) Note: with these picks,
