Cagney appeared as himself in the ABC special "Night of 100 Stars" which aired March 8, 1982. It was a benefit for the Actors' Fund taped at Radio City Music Hall.

Cagney appeared in an episode of a half hour syndicated Catholic religious program called The Christophers in 1955. In episode "A Link in the Chain" he played Professor George Graham, an aging college professor who reviews his life via a box of personal memorabilia before a dinner in his honor.

Cagney was profiled and interviewed by Jack Perkins on "NBC Magazine with David Brinkley" in a segment called "Song and Dance Man". It aired October 24, 1980 and was repeated and updated the following July 30, 1981 telecast.

Acted in eight theater productions: Pitter Patter (9/29/20-1/1/21 at the Longacre Theatre; 111 performances), Outside Looking In (113 performances at both the Greenwich Village Playhouse and 39th Street Theatre 9/8/25 into 1926), Broadway (Broadhurst Theatre, 1926-27), Women Go On Forever (117 performances 9/7/27-into 1928), The Grand Street Follies of 1928 (144 performances at Booth Theatre beginning 5/29/28), The Grand Street Follies Of 1929 (53 performances; Booth Theatre), Maggie The Magnificent (co-starring Joan Blondell; 32 performances, at the Cort Theatre) and Penny Arcade (24 performances; directed by William Keighley co-starring Joan Blondell, Millard Mitchell and Don Beddoe at the Fulton Theatre). The latter production would lead to the signing of Cagney and Blondell to what would become long-term contracts at Warner Brothers.

Cast: Mary Boland, James Cagney, Willard Foster, Edwin Kasper, David Landau, Mary Law, Constance McKay, Douglass Montgomery, Myron Paulson, Osgood Perkins, Francis Pierlot Hans Sandquist, Elizabeth Taylor, Edna Thrower, Morgan Wallace (as "Jake"), Sam Wren. Co-produced by William A. Brady and Dwight Wiman.
