Marvel vs DC: Actors who have played multiple Characters.by zurich_leader | created - 31 Aug 2013 | updated - 05 Oct 2016 | Public
This list exists to ask the question.
"Is it ok for an Actor/Actress to play more then one Character in the Marvel/DC universe?"
I am pretty tame in terms of my comic die hardness but I believe if you are playing a title character or someone in the title group from a comic then you should only get to be one character.
“Everybody gets one.”
So here I have for you the Actors/Actresses who have broken the comic book universe by being more then Character from the Main Marvel/DC universes.
*Anyone missing from the list? Let me know in the comments*
**15,000 views, cheers everyone***

Producer | Argo
American actor and filmmaker Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt was born on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California, and was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His mother, Chris Anne (née Boldt), is a school teacher, and his father, Timothy Byers Affleck, is a social worker; the two are divorced. Ben has...
- Superman vs Batman
The internet has hit hard and fast with their dislike of the impending Batfleck but many have been fast to remind those would doubt Mr Affleck about the initial reaction to a certain Gay Cowboy playing a particular Evil Clown.
However I’m siding with the Internet on this one. Remember Daredevil? Yeah that was a pretty bad movie with a pretty average performance with the soon to be Batman. Please prove me wrong Ben Affleck, I want you to prove me wrong!
Actor | X2
Shawn Robert Ashmore was born one minute after his twin brother Aaron in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, on October 7, 1979. He is the son of Linda, a homemaker, and Rick Ashmore, a manufacturing engineer. By the age of seven, when their mother became a part of the Multiple Births Association ...
- X-men Film Series
Eric Summers/ Leech/ Superboy (kinda) D.C
Smallville barely scrapes into the D.C universe but I guess this explains the whole Ice breath thing. Just like Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore will be reprising his X-men role in the upcoming film and super boy is nowhere to be seen. On a side note Shawn ashmore was actually Leech a non comic related character who upon absorbing Clarks powers was referred to as Superboy by the local paper.
Actress | Deadpool
Morena Baccarin was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to actress Vera Setta and journalist Fernando Baccarin. Her uncle was actor Ivan Setta. Morena has Italian and Brazilian Portuguese ancestry. Dr Leslie Thompkins DC
Im going to apply the Mystique rule to this one, maybe she had been Copycat alllllll along! This Deadpool movie better be good, how can it not be good!! Sidenote, she is also the voice of Gideon in Arrow and Flash, busy lady, busy busy lady.
Update* still a maybe on the whole copycat thing
5. Halle Berry
Actress | Catwoman
Halle Berry was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her father, Jerome Jesse Berry, was African-American, and worked as a hospital attendant. Her mother, Judith Ann (Hawkins), who is Caucasian, has English and German ancestry, and is a retired psychiatric nurse. Halle has an older sister, Heidi Berry. Halle ...
- X-Men film series
Halle Berry fits perfectly into her X-men outfit and you would be hard pressed to find to many things wrong with her performance as Storm. The same cant be said for her performance as Catwoman. A flop of a film and several Golden raspberries later, Berrys superhero credentials are a little wounded. Fortunately with a new X-Men flick not far off there is hope for redemption.
6. Paul Bettany
Paul Bettany was born in Harlesden, London, England, into a theatre family. His father, Thane Bettany, died in 2015 but his mother, Anne Kettle, has retired from acting. His maternal grandmother, Olga Gwynne (her maiden and stage name), was a successful actress, while his maternal grandfather, ...
- Iron Man 1/2/3
- Avengers: Age of Ultron
Still early days for this announcement but it appears that Mr Bettany may just be one of the first actors to play two different Characters in the same move. Jarvis all be it is just a voice role and depending on what they decide to do withthe role, Vision could be the same but none the less it creates quite an interesting conundrum and somewhat opens the door for actors playing multiple caharcters in the same movie (when that isnt the actual intention). Still lookin forward to this movie, still annoyed by there being two Quicksilvers.
Ok so in actuality (and I totally called it before we walked in the cinema Quinten!) Jarvis is Vision so this doesnt really count but I will keep it anyway :)
7. Nicolas Cage
Actor | Leaving Las Vegas
Nicolas Cage was born Nicolas Kim Coppola in Long Beach, California, the son of comparative literature professor August Coppola (whose brother is director Francis Ford Coppola) and dancer/choreographer Joy Vogelsang. He is of Italian (father) and Polish, German, and English (mother) descent. Cage ...
- The Death of "Superman Lives": What Happened?
Ghost Rider Marvel
- Ghost Rider
BONUS Sooooo maybe I’m trolling a little because it didn’t quite happen but they were showing this at my local film festival so that was enough for me to put it here. For those of you who are new to the concept that Nic Cage was nearly Superman just sit down take a breath and let it sink in a little.
Actor | Gotham
Anthony Carrigan is a Massachusetts born actor known for his role as Victor Zsasz in the series Gotham on Fox and Kyle Davies in The Forgotten on ABC. He has also appeared on the Flash, the Blacklist and Parenthood. He was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, Alopecia Areata, which causes ...
Victor Zsasz D.C
Kyle Nimbus (Mist) D.C
- The Flash
Anthony Carrigan is doubling up and probably confusing the crap out of D.C T.V fans by showing up looking the same in two different D.C shows airing a couple of weeks apart. Way to corner the Alopecia market good sir.
Actor | The Shield
Educated at Boston University's School for the Arts, majoring in acting, before moving to New York City. Michael has numerous theater credits including the roles of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire and Touchstone in Shakespeare's As You Like It.
The Thing Marvel

Captain Nathaniel Barnes DC
Actor | The Green Mile
Michael Clarke Duncan was born on December 10, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois. Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) Marvel
Kilowog (Voice) D.C
- Green Lantern
I wont rip on the guy because sadly he isnt with us anymore but I am adding this one to the list based on Greenlanten being a live action film. We all miss you big guy.
11. Idris Elba
Actor | Beasts of No Nation
An only child, Idrissa Akuna Elba was born and raised in London, England. His father, Winston, is from Sierra Leone and worked at Ford Dagenham; his mother, Eve, is from Ghana and had a clerical duty. Idris attended school in Canning Town, where he first became involved in acting, before he dropped...
- Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Because Guarding the gateway to Asgard just isnt enough for some people. The leap from God to Priest I guess isnt that great in that aspect.
12. Sam Elliott
Actor | The Big Lebowski
Tall, thin, wiry Sam Elliott is the classic picture of the American cowboy. Elliott began his acting career on the stage and his film debut was in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Although his future wife, Katharine Ross co-starred in the film, the two did not meet until they filmed The ...
Caretaker/ Carter Slade Marvel
- Ghost Rider
General "Thunderbolt" Ross Marvel
Neither of these films did particularly well across the board and you have to wonder if it really wasnt possible to find a different actor to fill in either role just for the sake of continuinity. All in all thought Sam Elliott's role in both films is far from the worst thing about them and with Hulk look at yet another reboot his days as General Ross may be numbered.
13. Chris Evans
Actor | The Avengers
Christopher Robert Evans began his acting career in typical fashion: performing in school productions and community theater.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Lisa (Capuano), who worked at the Concord Youth Theater, and G. Robert Evans III, a dentist. His uncle is congressman Mike ...
The Human Torch Marvel
- Fantastic Four 1/2
Captain America Marvel
- Captain America: The First Avenger
- The Avengers
Chris Evans is a serial offender when it comes to playing comic book characters. Adding to the above list he has also played key roles in "Scott Pilgrim vs The World" and "The Losers". Top this off with a lead role in the superhero flock "Push" and Chris Evans has held a wider power set then Superman.
The real deal breaker here is that he has played Characters who somewhere down the line could cross over, fortunately for him a Fantastic 4 reboot is on the cards so if the trend of Superhero cross over flicks continue its likely to be played off with cheeky nod and inside joke to his flaming past.
14. Jon Favreau
Producer | Chef
Initially an indie film favorite, actor Jon Favreau has progressed to strong mainstream visibility into the millennium and, after nearly two decades in the business, is still enjoying character stardom as well as earning notice as a writer/producer/director.
The amiable, husky-framed actor with the ...
Happy Hogan Marvel
- Iron Man series
Foggy Nelson Marvel
someones assistant (this doesnt really count) D.C
- Batman Forever
Jon is a man with his hand in every pie, he makes great movies and plays a great hard man/comic relief. There is a place for this sort of thing as far as playing more then one supporting comic Character especially when you are good at it.
15. Colm Feore
Actor | Chicago
Colm Feore was born on August 22, 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He is an actor and writer, known for Chicago (2002), The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Thor (2011). He has been married to Donna Feore since 1994. They have two children. He was previously married to Sidonie Boll.
Laufey (King of the Ice Giants) (Voice) Marvel
Donald Menken Marvel
- The Amazing Spider-man 2
Bit of a downgrade going from ruling your own planet to being Norman Osbournes Coffee Bitch but none the less Colm joins the list of double dippers with his role in the Amazing Spider-man 2
16. Ben Foster
Actor | Hell or High Water
Ben Foster was born October 29, 1980 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Gillian Kirwan and Steven Foster, restaurant owners. His younger brother is actor Jon Foster. - Xmen: The Last Stand
Spacker Dave Marvel
- The Punisher
Going from Pierced Spaz to Angel is quite the transformation and probably a little bit of a stretch. Fortunately Punisher has already had one failed reboot so he is more likely to be remembered as the Angelic son of the Mayor of Gotham..I mean the Warren Worthington II.
17. James Frain
Actor | The Count of Monte Cristo
James Frain is one of Hollywood's most versatile and respected actors who has a reputation for bold, intelligent performances in a diverse body of work in which he's collaborated with some of the finest actors and directors working today.

18. Rila Fukushima
Actress | Game of Thrones

Katana (Tatsu Yamashiro) DC
Is there a shortage of Asian actors capable of playing superheroes/villains in Hollywood? Noticing a trend here.
19. Charles Halford
Actor | Constantine
In his senior year of high school he delivered an award winning performance of Lenny in John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men," which, in his words was, "just my best attempt at mimicking John Malkovich's on screen embodiment of the same character, but in going though the motions, some wonderful magic ...
Agent Shaw Marvel
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
20. Chin Han
Actor | The Dark Knight

He has been married to Chrishell Stause since October 28, 2017. He was previously married to Lindsay Hartley.
- Aquaman Pilot
Green Arrow D.C
This had the potential to get confusing real quick as the sort of people who watched Smallvile were the sort of people likely pick up on someone playing a completely different major comic book hero then one they had just played.
Fortunately Aquaman is Aquaman and didnt get picked up and Arrow has introduced everyone to a new Green Arrow. No harm no Foul and poor Justin Hartley gets to count himself lucky that he isnt remembered for his chat with a starfish for the rest of his carreer.
22. Elden Henson
Actor | Daredevil
Elden Henson (formerly billed as Elden Ratliff and Elden Ryan Ratliff) got his start in the business at age two, as a baby model. By the time he was six, he was appearing in numerous commercials; by age ten, he was on his way to becoming a successful child actor. By the time he started high school,...
Foggy Nelson Marvel
- Daredevil (TV)
- The Death and Return of Superman (short)
So this one is more or less a bonus since let’s be honest as hilarious as that short is (and it is) it probably doesn’t quite count as doubling up. Still I felt you all should realise that Foggy Nelson killed Superman.
23. Falk Hentschel
Actor | Knight and Day
Hentschel worked in London as a professional backup dancer for artists such as Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Paulina Rubio, Jamelia and others. Later he was hired as a choreographer and worked on many music videos and tours in Canada and Asia.In 2003, Falk decided to stay in Los Angeles for good ...
Marcus Scarlotti (Whiplash sorta) Marvel
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
Carter Hall (Hawkman) D.C
- Legends of Tomorrow
Last time I updated this after an announcement Tom hardy went and dropped out so make my life east and stay put buddy. What’s up with all the versions of Whiplash in the Marvel universe? Shield, Agent Carter and Iron man are all the same continuity marvel, let’s not be doubling up on vaguely similar characters.
24. Kelly Hu
Actress | The Scorpion King
On February 13th, 1968, a girl of Chinese, English, and Hawaiian ancestry was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father, Herbert, was a salesman and her mother, Juanita, worked many odd jobs to help support the family. She has one older brother, Glenn. She is a former Miss Teen USA, and modeled in Japan...
Lady Deathstrike Marvel
China White D.C
a very small conflict in roles in the grand scheme of things and I did like her in X-2.
25. Will Yun Lee
Actor | The Wolverine
Will Yun Lee was born in Arlington, Virginia, to Jung Ja Lee and Soo Won Lee, who had recently emigrated from Korea. He was raised by both immediate and extended family and moved often, exposed to life on the tough Bronx streets and idyllic Hawaiian beaches. By his teens he was living in the San ...
Harada (First Silver Samurai in Comics) Marvel
- The Wolverine
Ya know what, these characters are pretty much interchangable, he could have been the same character in both films and most people wouldnt have bat an Eyelid. The realy travesty here is that Korean born Lee is likely stuck playing that one Japanese martial arts guy for life.
26. Doug Jones
Actor | Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The youngest of four brothers, Doug Jones was born on May 24, 1960 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and grew up in the city's Northeastside. After attending Bishop Chatard High School, he headed off to Ball State University, where he graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, with a...
Norrin Radd (Silver Surfer) Marvel
- Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Doug Jones is in the same league as Andy Serkis, as brilliant at doing what he does as anyone could be but will likely never see an Oscar for his work. Being the one of a kind actor that he is I hope to see many more comic cameos out of this guy.
27. Tommy Lee Jones
Actor | The Fugitive
Tommy Lee Jones was born in San Saba, Texas, the son of Lucille Marie (Scott), a police officer and beauty shop owner, and Clyde C. Jones, who worked on oil fields. Tommy himself worked in underwater construction and on an oil rig. He attended St. Mark's School of Texas, a prestigious prep school ...
Two Face D.C
- Batman Forever
Colonel Chester Phillips Marvel -Captain America: The First Avenger
You cant really fault Tommy Lee as he doesnt really throw out to many bad performances. In this case all it really is is a guy with a messed up face being pissed off at another guy with a messed up face.
28. Vinnie Jones
Actor | Snatch
Vincent Peter Jones was born on January 5, 1965 in Watford, England. He first came to public notice as a professional footballer, playing in the English Football League. Noted as one of soccer's hard men, he leaped to fame when a photographer, at a match, snapped him "marking" Newcastle United's ...
Vinnie Jones can play all the super villains as far as I am concerned, I sure as hell won’t be telling him what he can and can’t do, I am somewhat attached to my kidney.
29. Donal Logue
Actor | Blade
Donal Logue's versatility and talent makes him one of the most well respected and beloved actors today. Born in Ottawa, Canada, Logue moved all over the United States, from the Boston area as an infant to various towns on the Mexican border. He returned to Boston to attend Harvard University, where...
Harvey Bullock D.C
Donal Logue has mastered playing a jerk. Be it a Jerk Vampire or a Jerk cop he is undoubtedly the loveable Jerk of Hollywood. While Quinn doesn’t make an appearance in the comics he is a big enough part of the film to make him worth mentioning on this list. Jerk face.
Actor | X2
Antonio Diego (Bane) D.C
- Batman and Robin
Jason Stryker (Based on mastermind) Marvel
I think we can choose to forget Batman vs Robin as Bane has been handily reclaimed by Tom Hardy. Mackay's roll in X-2 was a far superior performance in a far superior film.
31. Joe Manganiello
Joe Manganiello is an American actor. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Susan (Brachanow) and Charles John Manganiello, and has a younger brother, Nicholas. His father is of Italian descent and his mother has German/Austrian/Croatian and Armenian ancestry. Joe was raised in Mount Lebanon ...

Samuel Sterns (Leader) Marvel
- The Incredible Hulk
Harvey Rupert Elder (Moleman) Marvel
- The Fantastic four (2015)
Some people are born to be Heroes, Tim Blake Nelson is apparently not that person. Had there been a Hulk sequel it was certainly looking like he was likely to play Leader but unfortunately (or fortunately depending how much you didn’t like that movie :P ) it was not to be. Details are a little sketchy but it does look like Tim will be picking up the mantle of another not so pretty Marvel Villain in 2015.
36. Tao Okamoto
Actress | The Wolverine
Tao Okamoto was born on May 22, 1985 in Chiba, Japan. She is an actress, known for The Wolverine (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Hannibal (2013). She has been married to Tenzin Wild since 2016.

Kitty Kowalski D.C
- Superman Returns
Danica Talos Marvel

The only Actor on this list to play two Characters who has no Comic book affiliation prior to their respective films, Parker Posey (is that even a real name?) played significant enough roles to make the list.
39. Ryan Reynolds
Actor | Deadpool
Ryan Rodney Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the youngest of four children. His father, James Chester Reynolds, was a food wholesaler, and his mother, Tammy, worked as a retail-store saleswoman. Between 1991-93, Ryan appeared in Fifteen (1990), a ...
Hannibal King Marvel
- Blade Trinity
Wade Wilson (Deadpool) Marvel
- Wolverine Origins
Green Lantern D.C
- Green Lantern
As if playing two heroes weren’t enough, Ryan Reynolds had to jump ship and don the green lantern ring. Unfortunately for Reynolds Green Lantern didn’t quite live up to the hype and like Berry before him (although not quite as bad) his hero creds took a bump.
With all that being said, I would still love to see a Reynolds helmed Deadpool movie, pretty please with sugar on top.
40. Tim Robbins
Actor | Mystic River
Born in West Covina, California, but raised in New York City, Tim Robbins is the son of former The Highwaymen singer Gil Robbins and actress Mary Robbins (née Bledsoe). Robbins studied drama at UCLA, where he graduated with honors in 1981. That same year, he formed the Actors' Gang theater group, ...
Senator Hammond D.C
- Green Lantern
Phill Blumbutt Marvel
- Howard the Duck
Somewhere in Marvels head office lies the remnents of the Howard the Duck, the bad taste of a film that forever left a stain on Tim Robbins filmography. Unfortunately Green Lantern didnt fare a whole lot better so perhaps crawling through a mile of excrement and waste is the better option for Tim.
41. Colin Salmon
Actor | Resident Evil
Colin Salmon is one of Britain's most renowned actors. With a bold voice and posture, Colin makes his characters a favorite among audiences for every role he plays. He made his feature debut as Sgt. Robert Oswald in the British mega-hit mini-series Prime Suspect 2 (1992), which gave him much ...
Walter Steele D.C
Agent Paul Dudiansky Marvel
- The Punisher Warzone
This one is a bit of stretch as Walter steele has to my knowledge (limited as it is when it comes to D.C) has only made one appearance in D.C comics but remains recurring character in Arrow. Paul Dudiansky is a little more relevant to the Punisher comics but again hes no spiderman.
42. Rebecca Romijn
Actress | X-Men
Rebecca Alie Romijn was born on November 6, 1972 in Berkeley, California. Her father was Dutch-born and worked as a custom-furniture maker. - Superman Returns
The Atom DC
- The Flash/Maybe own spin off
I would have thought playing superman would be the pinnacle of someones comic book acting career, after nearly a decade long layoff from playing superheroes (evil x aside) it looks like Mr Routh is back in a *Ahem* Smaller superhero role.
44. J.K. Simmons
Actor | Whiplash
J.K. Simmons is an American actor.
He was born Jonathan Kimble Simmons in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to Patricia (Kimble), an administrator, and Donald William Simmons, a music teacher. He attended the Ohio State University, Columbus, OH; University of Montana, Missoula, MT (BA in Music).

- The Justice League
J.K was one of the best things about the first Spider-Man trilogy one of those rare times that an actor has fit the role so well that most fans would have been happy to have him back in the reboots. Instead J.K is jumping universes to fill the boots of Gary Oldman who also probably would have been welcomed back in. To be honest I just want to hear him ask Batman if he is rushing or dragging…
45. Terence Stamp
Terence Henry Stamp was born and lived in Canal Road, Bow, until German bombers forced his family to move to Plaistow. An icon of the 1960s, he dated the likes of Julie Christie, Brigitte Bardot and Jean Shrimpton. After an extremely successful early career, starring in Modesty Blaise (1966), Poor ...
General Zod D.C
- Superman 1 and 2
Its highly unikely that Terence Stamp will be remembered for playing Stick based solely on the fact that Elektra was a pretty forgettable film over all. General Zod however is in the upper Echilon of Super Villians and that will be the performance that defines him.
46. Ray Stevenson
Actor | Thor
Tall, dark, but somewhat gentle-looking actor Ray Stevenson was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland on 25 May 1964, on a British army base. Vanessa Marianna (Fisk in the comics) Marvel
Lara Lor-Van D.C
- Man of Steel
Ayelet has nailed the part of supportive wife/girlfriend in both these roles, I can only imagine she will make an amazing Aunt May in a future Spiderman reboot.
