Hi, I'm a filmmaker. I have a Macbook laptop and I want advice on what is the best screenwriting software for simple formatting? I've read about how Final Draft crashes and erases scripts? I'm not sure what I should use?
Point me in the right direction please. Thanks

I've been using final draft for nearly 5 years now and have not once had a problem. The program has been fantastic and helped me write without concern for formatting and technicalities. I've been able to go in and concentrate fully on the story because of it, which is all you really need from a scriptwriting program. Anything else would be distracting from what you really want to do. In reality you could write scripts in wordpad, but you'd have to format everything manually, which is why I use final draft, to let it handle that.

Now the Sophocles is gone, Movie Magic Screenwriter (Write Bros.) is about as close as you can get and I'm lovin' it. Final Draft drives me mad--I've given away two versions of it I was gifted with, because I'm so spoiled by the more user friendly Sophocles and now MM. Try a trial version for a test run. I think you'll love it.

I use MM as well and it's very easy. However, Montage by Mariner Software (www.marinersoftware.com) is for use on the Mac platform and is also supposed to be very easy to use, although I have never tried it.

Pages has a screenplay template. I use it all the time, you can get the little side bar, and just click to make it format the section of text. No need to get any extra software.

If you don't mind being cheap and being at the mercy of the Internet, www.scriptbuddy.com can help you out.
